Simply put, web hosting is the activity and business of providing space on a web server which stores website files to be accessed.
Similar to the files and folders on your computer, a hosting service provider allows you to store web pages for public viewing on their computers' server. Also note, that these servers are configured to explicitly deliver web pages to the World Wide Web (WWW).
We sometimes refer to web hosting as web space because we are selling you space on the internet.
You need to know the scope of your project. What type of website are you building? Is the project simple with just a few pages? Will you have a blog or vlog (same as a blog but with video)? Will you use your website hosting service to sell online? How many website visitors do you expect to receive each month?
Sit down with a pen and paper. Write out answers to these questions above, then make adjustments based on what you want to accomplish with the site.
TIP: Keep in mind that graphics and photography, especially high resolution one, can at times take up more space on the website than the actual code and text.
Quick Reference
Officially, there are 1000 megabytes (MB) in a gigabyte (GB). So 500MB would equal 0.5GB. However, regarding memory manufacturers, like Kingston and Microsoft, they use 1024 megabytes per gigabyte.

To determine monthly bandwidth, you need to calculate the average page size in kilobytes times the number of daily visitors times the average number of pages per visit. Then multiply the answer by the number of days in the month (30 is average).
- ex. 64 KB per page x 1000 daily visitors x 3 pages = 192000 KB x 30 = 5,760,000 KB or 5.76 GB
